Nairobi Weekend (Sept 16/02)
Hello, my peoples!!
As I sit here, eating my chicken curry & fresh pineapple, smelling my enormously huge lilies (that cost about 80 cents), and listening to MP3's on my laptop, I just can't believe the weekend I had..... (of course it's balanced with the fact that I did just wash my laundry by hand!! :)
This is my point-form mail... that first email used up all my full sentences for the time being ;)
Friday night - Pavement - gay guy's dream of a perfect dance club, right here in Africa... fab decor, black lights and lasers, techno/trancey live mixes...
Saturday day - Karen Blixen house close to Ngong Hills with a Canadian/CUSO 8.25 months pregant Pam (everyone must watch Out of Africa - this is where I am!)
Saturday night - house party - oops, I mean mansion party! gardens, pools, DJs, buffet.. and a never-ending bottle of vodka (lucky for me!! :) (no goat party - will go to next month's instead)
Sunday morning - Florida 1000 - downtown Nairobi night club (african/caribbean type music, way fun dancing) [Jake - I went to Florida!! And I'm in Africa!! hahah]
Sunday noon - woken up by knocks on my door - Adil has brought a motorbike for me!! (KLX250 for those who are interested) that I can ride in the real DIRT! Went to a practice track, had to throw all my sportbike instincts out the window - this is big, loose, and bouncy riding! I LOVE IT! Practice for the bush.. when I can go on safari and ride with the gazelles...... (pboy, don't even start..!)
Sunday afternoon - brunch at Java House, magnificent place for a Sunday - exceeds any Hfx brunch, and it's even outside in the fresh warm air! Kenyan coffee, banana smoothie, fresh oj... mmmm... beverages!! I'm all about it.
Sunday late afternoon - went to the go-kart track to meet Nick Wood, the British owner of said track (which is really a mini race car track), who also... get this... skydives! he'll hook me up with the local DZ here... and even told me about a big ass jumping "convention" at Mombassa (Indian Ocean coast) at the end of Oct. Guess who's going to that! hahaha
Sunday evening - movie downtown, still with Adil (what a host eh! btw he's an architect) - they have assigned seating in the theatre! Sum of all Fears made me cry... because it's too close to real.. I mean really. And no, I wasn't falling for American propoganda... I just can't believe that we humans kill each other.. so then he showed me where the US embassy used to be in Nairobi - bombed in 1994, took out ~225 Kenyans and about 7 Americans. It's now a memorial park. PLEASE.. for those of you who haven't looked into anti-globalization, start informing yourselves - only we (humans) can fix our problems! [Dad, I left the no-nonsense guide for you]
I'm a very lucky person, and I felt it keenly this weekend....
And now I'm listening to Afroman... ttyl!!!! :)
